Former Major League Baseball player Jose Offerman plans to appeal a judgment ordering him to pay nearly $1 million for a 2007 on-field bat attack.
Offerman charged the mound with a baseball bat during a game between the Bridgeport Bluefish and the Long Island Ducks. Former Bluefish catcher Jonathan Nathans sued Offerman, saying he still suffers symptoms from injuries sustained in the attack. Nathans was awarded $940,000 by a jury yesterday.
Nathans had sought nearly $5 million.
The jury declined to hold the Long Island Ducks responsible for Offerman's actions.
