Some local children are making new friends at the Stratford Animal Shelter while working on some valuable skills.
Stratford Animal Control started the Paws to Read program earlier this year.
Organizers say the program takes shy animals and gets them used to people and makes them suitable for adoption.
The program's goal is to make dogs and cats more comfortable around people and more likely to find a home.
