A Fairfield elementary school teacher is one step closer to being named top teacher in the nation by one of the nation's most popular morning shows. Kristin Golia, a teacher at Osborn Hill Elementary School, appeared this morning on ABC's "Live! With Kelly" television program. The show is sponsoring a nationwide contest to find the country's best educator. Golia tutored third-grade student Teddy Gerber on her own time after he was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Teddy lost his battle with the disease, but she says working with him was an unforgettable experience. "He was just one of those students who was very easy to teach," says Golia. "He was very smart, very absorbed." The contest winner will be announced May 22.
