State and local leaders are mourning the loss of the longest serving state senator in Connecticut history, George "Doc" Gunther of Stratford.
Gunther passed away early Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer.
He was 92 years old.
Gunther represented the 21st district, which includes Shelton, parts of Stratford, Seymour and Monroe for 40 years, ending in 2006.
Stratford State Rep. Terry Backer says Gunther's time in office was an incredible accomplishment.
