A man is accused of driving drunk and crashing into a building in Nassau County just after midnight on Thursday morning.

The Port Washington Fire Department was dispatched to the collision at 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Shore Road and Manhasset Avenue.

Matthew Meyran, 66, of Port Washington, was operating a grey 2019 Mercedes-Benz when he left the roadway and crashed into a building, causing extensive damage, according to Nassau police.

Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Saccoccia was first on scene and found the SUV had gone through the window of Black Tie Wine & Spirits.

Meyran, who had self-extricated prior to fire department and police arrival, was arrested for DWI.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident and there were no injuries reported, police say.

An entire window on the side of the structure was shattered and damage could be seen inside of the business. The side of the building is now boarded up, and there was debris laying on the grass on Thursday afternoon.

The village building inspector responded to ensure there were no additional hazards.

"it's unfortunate and it's sad, but it happens all the time because people don't abide by the law," says Port Washington resident Hannibal Contreras.

Meyran will be charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of more than 1% when he is arraigned on Thursday.

Black Tie Wine and Spirits told News 12 they were closed on Thursday and Friday.
