5ds agoAndy Svoboda, the club professional at Great River Golf Club in Milford, shot an even par 70 Thursday while spending some time in the top 10 during Round 1 of the U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club.
Svoboda, who also qualified for next week's Travelers Championship in Cromwell, started his round with a birdie on hole one, then birdied hole six nearly rolling in for eagle.
After birdying the 10th hole, the New Rochelle native was one under for the round until a bogey on 17.
Svoboda finished tied for 28th at the closing of his round.
Defending Travelers Champ Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler both shot 62s, setting a U.S. Open record.
Round two continues on Friday.
