The New York Civil Liberties Union and Stringer released a study Thursday criticizing military recruitment in city schools. The organization charges the Department of Education with not doing enough to protect students? privacy.
NYCLU officials say they surveyed approximately 1,000 students in the city last spring regarding in-school military recruitment. Some of the students surveyed felt schools did not offer appropriate guidance regarding the risks and benefits of military-related decisions.
The study says recruiters have been given too much access to public classrooms. Many students are unaware that they can withhold personal information from recruitment officials, according to the report.
