A Newtown man was knocked down by a black bear Saturday during a hike in the woods of Southbury.
The 38-year-old was able to get away from the bear, which fled into the woods.
He was taken to Danbury Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A bear trap was set up in the area by wildlife biologists and will be monitored.
The incident prompted the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to remind people that if they see a black bear to stay away.
