The sides failed to reach a deal today for the Milford teen accused of stabbing a classmate to death on the day of their junior prom.
Christopher Plaskon is charged with murdering Maren Sanchez inside Jonathan Law High School two years ago.
Court documents say he admitted to stabbing the 16-year-old class president after she turned down his request to go to the prom.
The prosecution says it has made Plaskon its final plea offer and it is now up to Plaskon's defense lawyers to decide whether he should take it.
In court documents, Plaskon allegedly sent his parents a jailhouse latter, bragging that he would only get one or two years in prison by copping a plea deal for an insanity defense.
Both sides will be back in court on March 7. Both sides also say if they can't reach a deal by that date, the case will go to trial.
