Norwalk fire officials say a fire last night that left 12 people homeless was caused by storage piled too close to a ceiling light, which then fell.
The fire happened at around 8 p.m. on West Main Street.
Fire officials say the light switch in the attic was found in the on position.
Officials say 33 firefighters assisted in putting out the blaze, which started in the back of the three-story building. Everyone safely made it out of the six-family home.
The deputy fire marshal recommends items be kept at least 3 feet away from light bulbs to avoid potential fires.
