On Friday, Norwalk officials marked World AIDS Day with a ceremony at the Health Department.
The theme of this year’s day is remembrance and commitment.
Officials said this is an effort to encourage everyone to end the stigma and honor those lost to the virus.
“It's no longer a death sentence. There have been many huge advancements in health care that make it possible for individuals who do a positive HIV diagnosis a long and healthy life,” said Health Department nurse practitioner Chelcia Foster.
Officials say it's important for people to get tested and have access to resources.
