The City of Norwalk is taking a major step forward in getting South Norwalk a school of its own for the first time in 50 years.
City and state officials gathered to celebrate the final application being sent into the state for the $76 million proposal.
The city wants to build the school on 11 acres between Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and South Main Street.
The Norwalk superintendent says students and their families will greatly benefit from having this new school.
"It allows for so many of our parents to have access to the schools to actively engage and support the learning of our students," said Alexandra Estrella, Norwalk superintendent
Norwalk officials say the state will reimburse the city 60% of the total construction cost.
