4ds agoA local mixed martial arts fighter who has overcome incredible odds now has a movie out about his life called "Notorious Nick."
Nick Newell, also known as Notorious in the MMA world, is an inspiring competitor who was born with a congenital amputation of his left arm.
He says when he was in high school in Milford, he lost his first 17 matches. Through hard work and perseverance, he started battling in the ring and proving his naysayers wrong.
He's won 16 of his 20 events. Filmmakers approached him several years ago about making a movie about his life. It came out Friday.
Newell hopes it inspires others. He still lives in the area and owns Fighting Arts Academy in Milford.
He's also coaching other fighters and may be getting back into the ring himself.
