Deteriorating bricks are being blamed for the chimney fire that damaged a home in a historic section of Fairfield.
Crews were called out to the home on Old Post Road around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials say the homeowner was building a fire in his fireplace when the cable TV suddenly went out.
They say he went outside to discover the flames had breached the chimney and burned through the cable.
News 12 is told no one was hurt but the 100-year-old chimney was condemned.
