State officials and local police advised the public Wednesday to make sure they have a safe ride home after New Year's Eve celebrations.
Officials were joined by Uber representatives, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Sen. Tony Hwang at the Fairfield Police Department to discuss the dangers of drunken driving.
Chief Gary MacNamara said while party plans are typically made in advance, the plan of getting home does not always cross people's minds until the end of the night.
Speakers said whether it's Uber, a taxi company or a designated driver, anything is better than having even one drink and getting behind the wheel.
The general manager of Uber Connecticut said driving while drunk is an unnecessary tragedy and that people have better options.
Just for the holiday, Uber announced it is offering a promotion to new riders that also benefits Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
