Organizers of the 102nd annual Yankee Doodle Fair canceled the carnival for Thursday's opening night because of the wet weather, but will reopen the rides Friday.
The Westport Woman's Club, located at 44 Imperial Ave., organized the event and hopes to open the carnival for as long as possible over the weekend.
Families can still enjoy the fair's indoor activities if it continues to rain. Those activities include story-telling, book sales and a guest singer, Suzanne Proft.
The Yankee Doodle Fair runs through Sunday.
