Bridgeport fire officials say they suspect the six fires in four different buildings since yesterday afternoon were deliberately set and that they are connected.

Officials say each fire was started in a vacant home. A homeless man was found dead and a firefighter was injured.

Fire officials say the firefighter who was hurt suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.

Assistant Chief William Hathaway of the Bridgeport Fire Department says police have stepped up their presence in the area as a precaution.

Witnesses at two of the fires tell News 12 Connecticut that they saw someone running from the scene.
