Elected officials, anti-violence groups and victims stood together Tuesday outside of One Police Plaza to launch June as Gun Violence Awareness Month in New York City.
Organizers are trying to get the word out that gun violence typically increases during the summer months.
The organizers are asking all New Yorkers to wear some type of orange throughout the month of June to show support for Gun Violence Awareness Month, saying that every little amount of support will show the importance of laying down the guns.
