Parents packed a Franklin Square school board meeting demanding answers after a school principal was placed on leave.
Gilbert Torossian was placed on a temporary leave of absence from the Polk Street School following what school district officials called “unforeseen circumstances.”
Parents say they do not understand why the principal was suddenly removed. They accuse the school board of keeping them in the dark.
School Board President Stephen Toto said there are limitations on what can be revealed due to state laws.
Toto said, “While we understand at times there is a desire to know, we are legally bound to follow the laws of New York State when it comes to employee and student rights, most specifically the right to privacy.”
