Some of the million-plus people ordered to evacuate due to incoming Hurricane Florence wound up at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.
The airport has several flights daily from Charlotte, North Carolina. For now, the flights have at least been partly filled with people escaping Florence's path.
One flight home Tuesday wasn't exactly planned for several college students from the area, who had returned to school last month. But Florence, with its projected 140 mph winds and potential for massive flooding, meant a change to the school year.
News 12 met up with students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and University of South Carolina. Some said their school canceled classes and issued a voluntary evacuation Sunday night, and then changed it to a mandatory evacuation Monday night.
At this point, the students say they're unsure of when they'll be headed back.
Florence is expected to make landfall on the Carolinas on Thursday.
