People rallied ahead of a Board of Education meeting at Newtown High School Tuesday evening over concerns of book bans.
The titles in question deal with topics, including sexual orientation, sex abuse, mental health and bullying.
People who want the books removed say the content is inappropriate for a public-school library, but the notion has created opposition from people.
"We are the Constitution State, right? If we don't stand for this, what do we stand for? If we move forward and ban these books, we should rip up the moniker of be kind," said Dan Grossman.
Demonstrators say they are concerned the Board of Education has a Republican majority and the vote may not go their way.
The board is still searching for a middle ground but several amendments to limit access to the books to kids of certain ages failed.
