Plans to construct a juvenile detention center for girls in Bridgeport were temporarily put on hold Friday, which some residents say is a relief.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell says the State Bond Commission removed the $15 million allotment from the agenda after local officials objected to putting the center in a residential neighborhood.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says, though the detention center is much needed, Rell was wrong not to directly consult residents from the start.
Robert Genuario, Rell's budget director, said the project will be placed on a future agenda.
