Saturday was opening day for the North End Little League.

There was plenty to celebrate as the event also marked the 70th anniversary of the Bridgeport team.

A team mother and coach told News 12 the purpose of the league is to give kids a safe place to learn baseball and build friendships.

The team is a nonprofit that is still accepting sponsorships and donations.

The North End Little League is also accepting registration for kids who want to play.
