The NYPD is searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run that occurred early this morning on Bedford Avenue, a street notorious for dangerous driving.
The crash took place just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Lafayette and Bedford avenues.
Police say a man in his late 30s or early 40s was struck. He was rushed to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officers say the driver fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, and police have yet to make any arrests.
Last month, the Department of Transportation began construction along Bedford Avenue to install pedestrian islands along the road to make it safer. It comes as the Department says 29 individuals were either killed or seriously injured in vehicle-related incidents along the corridor between 2016 and 2020.
Police have yet to release the victim's name.
