Norwalk police say they caught a hit-and-run driver less than two hours after he seriously injured a woman trying to cross the street early Monday morning.
Detectives say the crash happened just after 1 a.m. as Tania Maldonado Salazar was crossing an intersection where West, Belden and Mott avenues meet. The 22-year-old from Stratford was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Minutes earlier, witnesses say Salazar and her friends had been enjoying music at the nearby Lotus Lounge.
Police say they arrested driver Luciano Vazquez after witnesses took note of his license plate.
Vazquez was arraigned Monday in Norwalk Superior Court. His bond was set at $25,000 and he is due back in court Sept. 8.
