Officials: Man rescued from Lake Mohegan while trying to save dog
A man was rescued from Lake Mohegan in Fairfield after jumping in icy waters while trying to save his dog.
Police say a 24-year-old man jumped into the lake Sunday around 4 p.m. to rescue his dog that had fallen through the ice.
They say three people, including the man's girlfriend, pulled the man from the water, but the man couldn't walk.
Officials say after all of the man's efforts, the dog was able to free itself from the icy water.
Police say the dog's owner was treated for severe hypothermia and transported to the hospital.
The three other people were transported to the hospital and treated for minor hypothermia.
All the victims are in stable condition, officials say.
Animal Control checked out the dog and it was turned over to family uninjured.
