A man from Pennsylvania was arrested after attempting to break-in at the Connecticut State Office Building in Hartford, state police said.
State police said Christian Gonzalez, 43, broke into a high voltage area and set off an alarm.
Police said Gonzalez did not get into the building.
Gonzalez's attorney said he has spent most of his life in Connecticut and is currently homeless with a substance abuse problem.
State officials said the building remained closed on Monday as some of the buildings systems were impacted by the break in.
The attorney general and secretary of the state both have offices there.
Police said this was not a targeted incident.
They said there is no threat to the public or employees who work in the building.
State police are investigating the incident and asked anyone with information to contact trooper Luis Ferreira at Troop Hartford at 860-534-1000.
