Connecticut State Police say they are cracking down on drivers who speed across the Moses Wheeler Bridge in Stratford.
Police say a recent study found that nearly all drivers exceed the 45 mph limit on the bridge, even though it is currently a construction zone.
Trooper David Koonitsky says drivers travel an average of 10 to 15 mph faster than the posted limit. He says state police will be stepping up patrols and doubling fines in an effort to get drivers to slow down.
The crackdown comes in the wake of a fatal crash on the span. Last month, a New Jersey man died and four others were injured when a car struck an SUV that had pulled over onto the shoulder.
