The principal at Staples High School in Westport was honored Sunday for his positive impact on his students.
Civil rights legal organization Lambda Legal held a brunch, silent auction and fashion show at Mitchell's clothing store in Westport.
Among the honorees was Principal John Dodig.
Dodig has been an educator for 46 years and the principal at Staples High School for 11 years.
Fifteen years ago he says he decided to let people know he was gay.

"I'm in a community that is accepting," he says. "I'm able to be an advocate not just for gay kids, but all kids that see themselves as being different. My goal in life as principal has been to help kids avoid, as much as possible, not carrying a scar for the rest of their lives."
A former student nominated Dodig for the award.
Lambda Legal also honored the non-profit Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund and the alcoholic beverage company Diageo.
