Temperatures are on the rebound but get the umbrella ready for plenty of rain over the next few days.
Calm winds have once again dropped temperatures into the teens and 20s across the island, but a big improvement is on the way for the afternoon. Expect dry conditions today with high temperatures near 40 degrees. This is the mildest weather we've seen since last Friday, one week ago! Temperatures return into the 50s for the weekend, but it comes with plenty of rain.
Light showers are expected on Saturday, and at the start, temperatures could be cold enough for some ice on colder surfaces like railings. We're expecting most of the freezing rain to be well west of the island in NJ, CT, and the Hudson Valley. For us, it's mostly just a wet and raw start to the weekend. Some dry air could briefly turn off the showers Saturday afternoon, but skies will remain cloudy with highs in the 50s.
Sunday will be even milder, with highs in the mid to upper 50s, but cloudy skies will remain and there is a chance for showers throughout the day and heavy rain overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
Monday is also in the 50s, but breezy with some sunshine in the afternoon. Sunshine and pleasant temperatures, in the 50s, will return for New Year's Eve on Tuesday ... until the evening. Unfortunately, we are expecting showers for the midnight countdown. Mild temperatures will be in place with midnight temperatures in the upper 40s.
A significant cool down returns for the first weekend of the new year, but at this time there is no threat for winter weather conditions.
