A rally was held in Bridgeport Wednesday in support of the verdict against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd.
The rally took place at Wentfield Park on the West End, with people taking time off from work to make their voices heard.
"The verdict was right, we still got to fight!" the crowd chanted.
Stratford attorney Donald Smart says the legal decision may have come down in Minnesota, but the implications of that historic verdict in the trial are being felt in every corner of the country - including urban centers such the Greater Bridgeport area.
News that the U.S. Justice Department is now probing the practices of the Minneapolis Police Department is punctuating the far-reaching implications of what took place in the courtroom.
Bridgeport Pastor Iris Teel says in spite of all the compelling evidence, many people of color were just not sure that justice would be served in the case until the verdict actually came down.
