News 12 Connecticut's Tom Krosnowski paid a visit to Total Mortgage Arena Friday morning to get a first-hand look at some of the latest acts from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
The circus is back in Bridgeport after a seven-year hiatus.
Bridgeport was historically where the circus, including its animals, spent its winters when not on tour.
The new show boasts 75 performers from 18 countries and it features dazzling costumes, never-before-seen acts on highwire, trapeze, and bicycle, innovative sound and visual technology and much more.
Maria Pontigo and her husband Jonathan come from generations of circus performers.
They're debuting a new triangular high-wire act 25 feet high.
"It's going to be four performers doing amazing tricks on the highwire," says Maria Pontigo. "You have all the weight of your body just supported by the wire, which is not bigger than your thumb."
The current edition of the circus doesn't have animal acts or a ringmaster, instead it's a celebration of performers across the world.
Visitors can check them out through Sunday at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, and then again May 3 through the May 5 at the XL Center in Hartford.
