A Riverdale church is happy that nobody was hurt last month when a tree shattered one of its stained glass windows, but it could be a long time before the glass is replaced.
"We're fortunate it happened in between services," said Father Andrew Butler, of Christ Church Riverdale. "Had it happened during 8:30 or 11:30 service, someone could've gotten hurt."
A Brooklyn company will be restoring the window, but the process could take five months.
Butler hopes to have the window back in place for the 150th anniversary of the church in October.
In the meantime, Butler has been moved by the response from Bronx residents.
"The rabbi next door called right away, the pastor of the Presbyterian church called," Butler said. "When things happen here folks tend to band together."
