Post Office officials announced Tuesday they're closing the Saugatuck Post Office at 615 Riverside Ave. in Westport this weekend, and many patrons say they're surprised how little warning they were given.
Officials say the building is in disrepair and there are safety and health concerns for the employees. As of Saturday, customers will have to access their boxes in a temporary trailer at 20 Saugatuck Ave., which will house all the post office boxes on a temporary basis.
Officials say the building has had substandard conditions for some time. They were looking for an alternative facility, and when the trailer became available they took the opportunity to use it.
