City lawmakers in Yonkers say they want a plan of action to ensure students are never left stuck on a bus for hours again after Thursday's snowstorm debacle.
Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader says an extreme weather plan for Yonkers schools is a must. Some students were left without food and water for hours.
"I hear the stories about children being stuck in school buses until 10, 11 o'clock at night where children…had to use the bathroom," he says.
Khader says he called on the Board of Education trustees to implement an extreme weather plan in September. He says he was mocked at the time.
Dr. Edwin Quezada, the superintendent of schools, released a statement stating, "I am ultimately responsible for the safety of our students and staff. My team and I will diligently work to improve our efforts moving forward."Although the city funds the Board of Education, it operates on its own.
Mayor Mike Spano announced the city and school administration will be conducting a comprehensive review to see what went wrong.
