A Stamford dermatologist is offering a new procedure that is being called "a non-surgical alternative to a face lift."
It's called Ellacor and Dr. Omar Ibrahimi of the Connecticut Skin Institute says there is nothing out there like it.
A hand-held device removes thousands of "tissue cores" of skin from the face using a process called "micro-coring". Ibrahimi says when the holes heal up, the face tightens, thereby helping to eliminate wrinkles.
"It takes the concept of cutting skin out, but it does so on a microscopic level. So instead of a plastic surgeon cutting out a large amount of tissue in front of the ears and pulling the skin tight, what Ellacor does is -- it's kind of a motorized punch biopsy, so it cuts out thousands of little micron-sized pieces of skin, and when you add the total amount of skin that's cut out, it removes a similar amount of tissue as compared to a facelift," Ibrahimi explains.
He says the treatment is approved for the lower face but could eventually be used on other parts of the body.
