A Stamford police officer is in critical condition this evening after falling off a highway bridge while chasing a robbery suspect. Investigators say officer Troy Strauser started pursuing the suspect, Frank Douglas, at around 1:30 this morning. They say the chase began near West Main and Diaz streets and that Douglas left the scene in a BMW. Authorities say the suspect fled on foot once crashing his vehicle, then leaped over an embankment near exit 14 along I-95. Strauser attempted to follow him, but apparently slipped and struck his head. Police arrested Douglas, who will be arraigned tomorrow. He is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
