After complaints from residents fed up with drunken driving in Stamford, police say they are taking action to take back the streets.
Residents say a short stretch of Stillwater Avenue has become infested with intoxicated motorists. Authorities set up a DWI checkpoint for Saturday evening in hopes of catching the dangerous drivers.
Three roads come together along the stretch, and confusing traffic signs can lead to messy situations for drunken drivers, according to residents. Concerned citizens say the extra police presence is needed as they live in fear for their safety.
Police say the checkpoint is a direct result of the quantity of complaints.
