A Stamford veteran's dedication to serving the country has turned into a dedication for serving others.
John Rubino served in the Marine Corps right out of high school in the '80s.
Since he retired, he says he's stayed in touch with many of those he served with and worked with some Marines that served even before he did.
Rubino also joined the Marine League 10 years ago, which is a group that works to give back to those currently serving. Beyond the donations Rubino has collected, he made a big one himself. He donated his kidney to a Stamford hairdresser he had never met before last year.
Rubino says he joined the Marine Corps to be a part of something bigger than himself. He says that same feeling motivates him every day over 30 years later.
