Connecticut’s attorney general is calling for an emergency ban on utility shut-offs as the coronavirus pandemic pushes people to stay at home.

Attorney General William Tong filed a petition with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority asking to stop electric, natural gas and water utility terminations for a 30-day period.

"We're asking people to work at home," Tong said. "Schools are being canceled ... so people are being asked to keep their kids at home, to do remote education over the internet, to home-school their kids and to stay home. And they can't do that and stay away from large crowds and have social distancing if they don't have access to electricity, natural gas and water at home."
