Connecticut state lawmakers advanced a bill to outfit buses with cameras on Tuesday.
State officials say it’s an effort to stop drivers from illegally passing school buses.
The cameras could issue fines of $250 but there will be no points on a driver's record.
Drivers will have 30 days to contest the fine.
"One incident would be one incident too many. And we want to make sure that parents know that we have their backs," said Sen. Herron Gaston.
The City of Bridgeport released footage in March that showed nearly 10,000 drivers illegally passing stopped school buses over a six-month span starting in August 2022.
