The state's seventh person to become infected with West Nile virus in 2012 spoke exclusively with News 12 Connecticut today.

Allen Richardson says he started experiencing symptoms in August, which included shivering and a full-body rash. As a foreign affairs correspondent for USA Today, he has traveled the world, but admits he knew very little about the disease.

Doctors say the best way to avoid the virus is to use bug spray and take heed when outside between dusk and dawn.
