Around 12,119 Fairfield residents remain without power for a second day Thursday following Tropical Storm Isaias, and the first selectwoman says United Illuminating's response is "the worst she's seen."
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick has signed a disaster declaration after surveying the damage in town.
She says residents without power should expect to be without it for a few days, and to be patient.
She adds she knows residents are frustrated, and that she's continuing to pressure UI for a quicker response.
Neighboring Bridgeport is seeing similar numbers of outages with around 8,000 UI customers still in the dark.
The Bridgeport Rescue Mission and city council members visited a senior housing complex to deliver meals since the tenants can't cook without power.
Mayor Joe Ganim says he's threatening to take legal action against UI over their storm response.
UI says their crews and contractors are working day and night, and that progress is being made.
They say their first focus was working with cities and towns to make the roads safe.
Officials say they're now turning to outages that are affecting large numbers of customers.
