Stratford officials are speaking out about recent criticism of firefighters who some residents say did not do enough to save the two lives lost in Saturday's house fire.
Stratford Mayor Jim Miron and Fire Chief reviewed photographs and videos taken from eyewitnesses and say firefighters did everything they could do to save the two people killed in the fire.
A fire broke out Saturday on Justice Street killing Linda Borger and her son Anthony Borger, 17. Fire officials say a mattress fire smoldered around 6:30 a.m. and re-ignited just after 8:00 a.m.
Officials say it took firefighters 14 minutes to put out the fire from the time they were dispatched. However, some residents say firefighters did not take enough action to save the victims' lives.
Authorities confirmed the second floor smoke detectors had been disconnected prior to the fire.
