A Stratford woman is recovering in the hospital tonight after police say she was hit by a car while walking across the street.

The early morning accident happened near the corner of Main Street and Paradise Green Place. According to officials, it appears Eileen Perry, 31, was getting coffee at a local shop when she crossed the road and was hit, landing in a nearby island.

Police say the driver, who remained at the scene, apparently did not see Perry crossing the street. Witnesses and Stratford residents say the intersection is very dangerous because you must cross the street not once, but twice.

Officials say it is not clear whether Perry used the crosswalk. She is listed in guarded condition in the hospital.

Police say charges are possible against the driver.
