North Haven appears to have taken the worst from the storms.
A small tornado touched down yesterday afternoon during a series of powerful thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service says the tornado was rated an EF-0, which is the weakest possible, with 70 mph winds. Several trees were uprooted in the town, and power was knocked out to hundreds of homes.
There was also a weak tornado that touched down on the East End of Long Island. Winds, rain and lightning are being blamed for a lot of the damage. Southold fire officials say a massive house fire in Peconic was caused by a lightning strike. Firefighters responded within minutes, but the house was destroyed. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
