The Town of Greenwich stepped in Thursday and cleaned up a homeowner's yard they claim is constantly filled with junk.

Town officials say they've tried to deal with Frank and Josephine Rupp, the elderly residents of 45 Mead Avenue, for 20 years. However, they say the couple has continuously refused to clear out the yard. Under a 1991 ordinance, the town is allowed to order a cleanup under extreme circumstances without a court order. After multiple warnings, the town sent a bulldozer, dump truck and Department of Public Works crew to the property. It took them eight hours to clear the yard.

Officials say they'll monitor the Rupp situation in the future. The town will bill the Rupps between $1,200 and $1,500.
