Town officials in Fairfield have finally set a date to rebuild Penfield Pavilion on Penfield Beach, more than two years after Superstorm Sandy leveled it.
The town had revamped the pavilion in 2011, just 15 months before the storm. The town says there has been a pavilion of some sort on the beach for more than 100 years.
After years of financial meetings and town discussions, officials chose July 10 to begin reconstruction.
The project is expected to cost $6 million, but officials say town residents won't see a big increase in taxes.
Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau says he expects the project to be complete by May 1, 2016.
