Bridgeport police are investigating two separate incidents that left three people dead after a violent night Tuesday.
In the first incident, police say two men were shot at around 8 p.m. Later that night, another victim was fatally stabbed at approximately 9:30.
According to police, the shooting took place at the intersection of Norman and State streets. Detectives say when they arrived on the scene, Jermaine Brown, 26, was already dead after getting shot in the chest.
The second shooting victim, William R. Cruz, 23, was still alive when police arrived. However, he later died at Bridgeport Hospital from multiple bullet wounds to the torso.
The stabbing incident that killed a third person, Scott Nishball, 18, took place on Stillman Street near the intersection of William Street. According to police, the victim was stabbed in the chest.
?All we can understand at this point is that there was a street fight,? says Bridgeport Police Detective Keith Bryant. ?Individuals were fighting one another. Somebody pulled out a knife and the result is one party was seriously injured.?
Investigators say so far they have no evidence that would lead them to believe the two incidents are connected.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch promised that police will apprehend the killers involved in the two incidents, which bring the total number of homicides in Bridgeport this year to 15.
?We're on top of it, and our police department, which is a great police department, will bring the guilty party to justice,? Finch says.
