A Milford police officer was injured after he was attacked during a street takeover event on Saturday.
Police say the officer was checking out the disturbance in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Bridgeport Avenue. The lot was filled with over 100 spectators and numerous vehicles.
He noticed a small fire started by fireworks and M-80s being set off, but as he was investigating he was jumped by some of the individuals nearby.
Police say body cam footage showed the officer running before he was attacked and had an object thrown at his head. They also say some of the crowd threw fireworks at his cruiser and jumped on it.
Police say the officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. He has since been released but is out of work while he recovers.
The Milford Police Department is actively investigating and asking anyone with information to contact them at 203-783-4728 or 203-878-6551.
